HAIL, MARY

Lip-synched, lip-glossed, and still fierce. Beyoncé at tonight's tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center.

Love for the respectfully sparing use of the original musical motifs. But I have to admit to my real secret fantasy where the Pope requests a private performance from her, and she serves the Schubert with full-on Latin litany. I would give anything to hear Beyoncé sing mulieribus or ora pro nobis peccatoribus. I think she could do it justice. Listen to the way she slow burns and then breaks into that head voice for the top notes. And the Schubert tune comes complete with little turns and embellishments; we know how much she loves those. I'M READY FOR B TO TAKE ME TO CHURCH.

Until then, though, let's have what is ostensibly the world's greatest soprano singing the original. Close your eyes and imagine it's Miss Sasha, standing before God in a Mugler exclusive, forever banishing the tremolo of Aaron Neville, who has for too many years plagued us with his version:
