Saturday: Soft Pink to Make NY Stink

Unicorn blanket-cape by Jeremy Scott

He hardly needs an introduction (but if you ever introduce him, remember to prepend with "Doctor"), but believe it or not, Drew Daniel, a.k.a. The Soft Pink Truth, has never performed solo in New York. That is until this Saturday, when you can catch him at a reading—no… literally reading from his new 33⅓ Books addition—Throbbing Gristle: Twenty Jazz Funk Greats, followed by a full-on laptop performance-cum-dance-party (that's the Latin cum, ladies). Drew promises some "covers" of classic anthems.

The Soft Pink Truth
Saturday, November 15, 2008
8:00pm; Tickets $10
Housing Works Bookstore Cafe
126 Crosby Street, New York, NY 10012 :: 212-334-3324

Drew is the quintessential patent leather daddy: between go-go dancing, playing in punk bands, touring the world with Björk, and indulging in some very, very gay plunderphonic disco/house/punk cutups, he somehow managed to find the time to earn a PhD in literature with a doctoral thesis on—if we remember correctly—melancholy. GURL! Now that he's living with his boyfriend (and Matmos bandmate) Martin Schmidt in Baltimore, where he is teaching English literature at Johns Hopkins University, we hope to see more of him and his telltale-stained Black Flag t-shirt in our fair(y) city.
